Ian Blakeway - Underwater Photographer and Videographer Dubai

Underwater film making and photography are another of my passions. After going snorkeling at Snoopy Island one weekend I was awe struck by the amount of sealife that can be found in the coastal waters of the UAE. Being completely bull headed I managed to get my first video camera and underwater housing before I had even qualified to dive and then proceeded to spend countless hours duck diving in the shallows trying to capture that award winning hamour shot in the shallows of what was then still a peaceful Jebel Ali Beach. I am sure those fish had many a good laugh at my expense, before their habitat was destroyed in the name of Human progress that is...Graduating from the BSAC club in Sharjah under the guidance of Brian King I was soon taking on more challenging dives and really getting to grips with the rigors o filming under water

Soon after this I met Jonathan Ali Khan and was lucky enough to join him on his “Arabia’s Cycle of Life” Expeditions which allowed me great opportunities to spend countless days underwater exploring the oceans and seeing some truly amazing creatures. From moray eals and giant sting rays, to the first ever footage captured of the secretive Two Faced Toad fish, expedition diving, filming and photography has to both the most rewarding and peaceful occupation there is today.

To anyone out there interested in the underwater world, I can strongly advise you to get out and dive. And to anyone else who has a lesser interest I ask only that you use whatever influence you have to protect our oceans, as despite the fact that they are vastly unexplored, we as a species are succeeding in destroying their creatures at an alarming rate. Take for instance the Hamour, how many of you have stopped buying Hamour since you realized that they are in decline as a species? The job of a responsible citizen is to make informed decisions based on knowledge, now you know, will you willingly contribute to the extinction of a species, because it tastes good?I hope not.
